Here’s an excerpt from the conversation. Your very first film Udaan which was made after a lot of struggle went on to get selected at Cannes, eventually getting a lot of critical acclaim. What was the main learning from the whole experience? Well Udaan gave me the confidence and the feel that I can deliver as a filmmaker. While I always knew that I had it in me to become a good filmmaker, this experience was a validation of that aspect and the feeling. It also gave me a big sense of relief. I also felt that post Udaan I should now very consciously make a bigger film, I did not want to be stuck making small films

  बगैर किसी भूमिका के शाहरूख खान से हुई बातचीत अविकल रुप में...  -अजय ब्रह्मात्‍मज - क्‍या आप को अपने प्रशंसकों से मिलना अच्‍छा लगता है ? 0 उम्र बढऩे के साथ मुझे अपने प्रशंसकों से मिलने में ज्यादा लुत्फ और मजा आता है। मुझे बहुत अच्छा लगता है। पब्लिक के बीच जाने का मौका कम मिलता है। यहां सामने समुद्रतट पर जाता हूं तो भीड़ लग जाती है। ‘ चेन्नई एक्सप्रेस ’ की वाई और मुन्नार में शूटिंग कर रहा था तो काफी लोगों से मिला। वहां भीड़ नियंत्रित रहती है। वे आपकी बात भी सुन लेते हैं। मुन्नार में चाय बागान में शूटिंग कर रहा था। वहां ढेर सारी बुजुर्ग औरतों से बात करने का मौका मिला। वे जिस तरह से लाज और खुशी के साथ मुझ से बातें कर रही थीं उससे बहुत खुशी हुई। मैंने उन्‍हें अपनी फिल्मों के संवाद सुनाए। वे उन सवांदों के मतलब तो नहीं समझ पाए मगर खूब हंसे। मुन्नार के शूटिंग के दौरान यूनिट में तीन-चार सौ लोग थे। वे हिंदी नहीं समझते थे और मैं उनकी भाषा नहीं समझता था। फिर भी हम साथ में काम कर रहे थे। ‘ चेन्नई एक्सप्रेस ’ ऐसी ही स्थितियों की फिल्म है। अपने ही देश में एक आदमी ऐसी जगह पहुंच जाए जहा

You had initially planned to team up with Rohit Shetty for remake of Angoor. Then how ‘Chennai Express’ comes in? Ans: Yes, it’s true. Actually, Rohit first approached me with the proposal to work on ‘Angoor’ remake 4-5 years back and I too was excited to do it as the original ‘Angoor’ is close to my heart. He narrated me a couple of stories including that of ‘Angoor’ and ‘Chennai Express’.  Since, Rohit wanted more time for Angoor remake, he offered me ‘Chennai Express’. Q. We have heard that ‘Chennai Express’ has m
